IV: Other
I only know how to make simple music
My recital wouldn't be complete without some of the music I love singing the most, and without some of the people I love singing with the most. This is me living my dream of being a beautiful long-haired folk singer for ten minutes. Enjoy.
I: Send My Love
Adele, arr. The Punch Brothers and I'm With Her, feat. Grace Jackson and Allison Moore, bass and voice
Grace, Ally, and I started singing this song earlier this year. For me, this was the first collaboration I'd ever done that felt truly magical. Singing with Grace and Ally is kind of transcendent.
I was too strong, you were trembling,
You couldn't handle the hot heat rising,
Baby, I'm still rising.

I was running, you were walking,
You couldn't keep up, you were falling down,
There's only one way down.
I'm giving you up, I've forgiven it all,
You set me free.

Send my love to your new lover,
Treat her better,
We've gotta let go of all of our ghosts,
We both know we ain't kids no more.

This was all you, none of it me,
You put your hands all over my body
And told me you were ready

For the big one, for the big jump,
I'd be your last love, everlasting,
You and me, that was what you told me.
I'm giving you up, I've forgiven it all,
You set me free.

Send my love to your new lover,
Treat her better,
We've gotta let go of all of our ghosts,
We both know we ain't kids no more.

If you're ready, I am ready.
text. Adele Laurie Blue Adkins / Johan Schuster / Max Martin

II: Five Hundred Miles
folk song, Peter Paul and Mary, feat. Sophie Jene Wang, voice and violin
Sophie and I used to sing this song sometimes when we were roommates. Those were good days, and I get nostalgic when we sing this song together.
III: I Will
John Lennon and Paul McCartney, arr. Thea Lund
Not a shirt on my back,
Not a penny to my name,
Lord, I can't go back home this ol' way.
text. and music Hedy West

If you miss the train I'm on,
You will know that I am gone.
You can hear the whistle blow
A hundred miles

Lord, I'm one, Lord, I'm two,
Lord, I'm three, Lord, I'm four,
Lord, I'm five hundred miles away from home.

This is one of my favorite love songs, and it seems like a good way to resolve this set. Also, I guess I arranged it. I was inspired by both the Beatles' version and the Alison Krauss cover. I can't notate music, though. And I can only make simple music.
Who knows how long I've loved you?
You know I love you still.
Will I wait a lonely lifetime?
If you want me to, I will.

For if I ever saw you,
I didn't catch your name,
But it never really mattered,
I will always feel the same.

Love you forever and forever,
Love you with all my heart.
Love you whenever we're together,
Love you when we're apart.

And when at last I find you,
Your song will fill the air,
Sing it loud so I can hear you,
Make it easy to be near you,
For the things you do endear you to me,
Oh you know, I will.
text. John Lennon, Paul McCartney
